When you think about taking RV trips, you likely picture yourself hitting the road during the summer months. While there’s no denying that summer is by far the most popular season to go RVing, you don’t have to limit your trips to the warmest months of the year. In fact, RVing in the winter can be just as much fun and more rewarding than you might think. Here are a few reasons to consider picking up your rig from your
RV storage space and hitting the road this winter.
Fewer People
One of the biggest challenges you’ll face during the summer months, especially if you’re camping in Colorado, is the sheer volume of people trying to do the same. Reservations at campgrounds have to be reserved well in advance and once you’re there, the campground may be noisier and busier than you’d like. When you camp in the winter, you get to escape the crowds.
Campgrounds will have more available sites to choose from. Fewer people will be using the campground at any given time which helps reduce the amount of noise you have to deal with. You’ll find it easier to relax and enjoy the amenities of the campground. Even better, fewer people at campgrounds often means fewer people at nearby attractions!
Fewer Bugs
Winter may bring cold weather and snow, but those colder conditions also mean that bugs will be a thing of the past. You’ll be able to step outside your RV and breathe the fresh air without worrying about inhaling a gnat or stepping into a cloud of mosquitoes. Fewer bugs also mean you won’t have to worry about spiders and other creepy crawlies making it into your camper, even if you’re in the woods.
Cheaper Site Rates
Winter is by far the least in-demand season for campgrounds. This often means they’ll drop the price of their sites for any campers interested in staying during the colder months. Use this to your advantage and stay at an RV resort that you might find too expensive during the summer months. Keep in mind that not all campgrounds will stay open during the winter. You’ll want to contact each campground before trying to make a reservation.
Less Traffic
Just as campgrounds are less crowded during the winter, so are the roads. The fewer people traveling means you’ll be able to get behind the wheel and enjoy the drive without having to worry about tons of other less experienced RVers on the road. You may even find it easier to squeeze into gas stations that might otherwise be too tight or too busy for your rig to fit in.
RVing in the Winter Can Be Fun
Though camping in the winter does have its own challenges, it can be incredibly rewarding. You’ll be able to enjoy fewer crowds, less active roads, and a more peaceful trip every time you head out. When you get back, your RV storage space will be waiting for you.
